July to September is monsoon — the desert turns surprisingly green and the lake fills beautifully.
The Pushkar Mela is one of the largest livestock fairs on the planet — held every year in October or November on the day of Kartik Purnima. For a week, the dunes outside Pushkar fill with traders, camels, horses, folk music, hot-air balloons and competitions like the Longest Moustache and Matka Phod.
